POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, EHS and Sustainability is a key contributor on the Site Leadership Team (SLT), developing and executing the site strategy to support Zoetis business objectives. This role provides direct leadership, strategic direction and tactical oversight for the site EHS and Sustainability Programs.

The Senior Manager of Environmental Health & Safety is accountable for independently

(1) Working as a Global EHS Expert in one or more program areas and has the ability to successfully represent the site on complex topics.

(2) Establishing "best-in-class" environmental, industrial hygiene, safety, or loss prevention programs supportive of GMS business interests and colleague wellbeing.

(3) Analyzing existing and planned operations, projects, process, equipment and facilities and develop cost effective action plans to ensure compliance with all internal and external requirements.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

* Build strong partnerships with Site Leadership Team, Value Stream operations and enabling functions including supply chain, quality, engineering, technical services and logistics.
* Drive EHS Culture to Safety Excellence.
* Ensure adequate EHS organization and EHS budget to meet site objectives.
* Provide direct leadership for site EHS colleagues, achieving site objectives for EHS, colleague engagement, quality, supply, and cost.
* Develop strategy to efficiently implement EHS requirements within Zoetis philosophy and policies. Key elements of this responsibility include management and participation in assessment and monitoring programs to identify EHS exposures and risks.
* Administer environmental, industrial hygiene, safety, process safety, ergonomic and/or loss prevention programs to assure that actions resulting from business decisions comply with applicable laws and regulations in a proactive financially - and publicly sensitive manner. The ultimate goal is for all programs to be "best-in-class". Where laws have not been developed, the incumbent evaluates what is required to achieve protection of colleague health and safety and protection of the environment.
* Responsible for leading, managing, and directing EHS projects and initiatives which provide support for all value streams to carry out plans for continuous improvement.
* Track and trend key EHS and Sustainability KPIs, and provide digital/data analytics to help drive progress on initiatives and to aid in decision making.
* Identify significant EHS risk (Operational, BCP, Legal, Financial, Repetitional, etc.), communicate opportunities and implement mitigation plans.
* Define and implement site actions plans, documents, processes, methods and tools to limit EHS risk and impacts.
* Effectively represent the organization on key projects and interacted with internal and external leaders on matters requiring multi-organizational collaboration.
* Coach shop floor problem-solving for EHS concerns/investigations using Method 1 techniques and Human Error Reduction Concepts.
* Integrate EHS and Sustainability into key business processes (Leadership Team, Capital projects, product/process transfers, equipment and material purchases, MoC, etc.).
* Define and manage actions related to regulatory obligations (legal registry/compliance calendar) and stakeholder requests (CSR/Sustainability reporting, FM Global, BCP, etc.).
* Establish effective working relationships with regulatory agencies that permit beneficial negotiations pertaining to company interest.
* Prepare regulatory submissions including facility reports, and technical documents.
* Subject Matter Expertise (Environment-Air, Water, Waste; Health- Well-being, Occupational Hygiene/IH; Safety- Occupational Safety, Process Safety).
* Oversight of site Sustainability Plan and drive to Carbon Neutral.
* Participate with trade and professional associations whose interests coincide with those of Zoetis. External contacts include OSHA/EPA agency personnel at all administrative levels, outside technical consultants, outside legal counsel, and EHS colleagues at other pharmaceutical companies.
* Maintain knowledge and understanding of current good manufacturing (cGMP) and laboratory practices (GLP) as they relate to Kalamazoo Site Operations.
* Is self-directed and able to provide effective recommendations that are sustainable, systematic, and impactful solutions for complex situations (site and multi-site).

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

* Demonstrated strengths in the following capabilities: leadership, operational management, data and financial analysis, decision-making, critical thinking and technical skills pertaining to Environmental, Health & Safety.
* Demonstrated record of innovation, focus on performance, change management, leader development with continuous improvement and development/implementation of best practices.
* Strong communication skills, verbal and written, coupled with excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
* Extensive experience with continuous improvement including the development and implementation of best practices.
* Ability to effectively communicate and work with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
* Ability to collaborate with various departments across the organization on Safety & Compliance issues.
* An understanding of the Pharmaceutical and Animal Health business and the important role Safety & Compliance plays in the effectiveness and efficiency of our business.
* Demonstrated achievement of goals/objectives, and demonstration of and commitment to the Zoetis Core Beliefs.
* Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Outlook, and ability to learn and effectively utilize Zoetis systems including but not limited to SAP, PAS/X, LIMS, Veeva Vault.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
* 10+ years of EHS compliance or other relevant experience required.
* Strong business acumen with demonstrated understanding of business strategy.
* Ability to build business partnerships throughout the organization by demonstrating an understanding of business fundamentals and decision-making processes.
* Strong analytical abilities to determine the impact of Safety & Compliance on the organization.
* Embraces change and views challenges as an opportunity for continuous process improvement.
* Demonstrated success in championing change.
* The candidate cannot be sensitive to penicillin or cephalosporins.

While performing the duties of this job, the colleague is regularly exposed to both office settings and a manufacturing environment, including moving mechanical parts. The work conditions for this position are 50% stationary and 50% standing and walking throughout the workday. The colleague will be required to utilize certain Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to, hard hats, safety ("steel-toed") shoes, eye protection, gloves, and protective clothing.
