Position Summary

The Director of Corporate Sustainability & ESG is responsible and accountable for developing, delivering and maintaining Sustainability, social and governance programs that support the SJW Group's (the Company or Company's) mission, vision, values, building blocks, goals and targets.Under the direction of the COO and with guidance from the Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) Council, the Director of Corporate Sustainability & ESG directs all aspects of the organization's sustainability & environmental social and governance programs. Designs and develops corporate sustainability and ESG strategies to ensure that business practices, programs, and services are socially and environmentally friendly and compliant with government rules and regulations. Collaborates with other leaders to implement processes and technologies that reduce the organization's carbon footprint. Promotes and explains the organization's sustainability philosophy to internal and external audiences.

Specific Responsibilities

As Chairperson, leads the ESG Council on the development and execution of current and future ESG related strategies, goals, target metrics, and activities

Develop and implement a comprehensive corporate sustainability and ESG strategy that aligns with the company's values and objectives.

Identify and prioritize key ESG matters that are relevant to our business and stakeholders, and develop strategies to address them.

Engage with internal and external stakeholders to build awareness and support for our corporate sustainability and ESG initiatives.

Develop and implement sustainability programs that reduce our environmental impact and improve our resource efficiency.

Participate in the development and implementation of our ESG reporting framework, including the disclosure and communication of our ESG performance to stakeholders.

Works closely with the SEC Data and Reporting Analyst Works closely with assigned finance and accounting team members to ensure that all reported data has been generated, reviewed, and approved per the Company's ESG governance

Monitor and analyze industry trends and best practices in corporate sustainability and ESG to ensure that our efforts remain relevant and effective.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate corporate sustainability and ESG considerations into business decisions and processes.

Manage relationships with key external stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations, industry associations, and regulatory bodies.

Develop and manage the corporate sustainability and ESG budget and ensure that resources are allocated effectively.

Supports Corporate management systems, as defined in the Company's Environmental and Health & Safety Corporate policies, by providing expertise and training to each of the Company's Subsidiaries and the affected Departments

Plans, supports and provides quality control of the development of Data Management Plans for all data required to accurately track, monitor and report on sustainability metrics related to sustainability performance and reporting to ESG rating agencies

Defines and monitors business processes to generate upstream data that will define our business functions and enable us to identify opportunities to refine our business processes

Coordinates with and supportsCorporate Communications for the successful development and publication of the SJW Group Sustainability Report

Partners with Investor Relations team to tell our ESG story, and share our achievements and measures of progress

Updates, on an annual basis, the SJW Group Sustainability Plan

Coordinates and supports accurate and timely reporting to the ESG rating agencies in accordance with the Company's ESG governance and as directed by the COO

Works closely with the SEC Data and Reporting Analyst Works closely with assigned finance and accounting team members to ensure that all reported data has been generated, reviewed, and approved per the Company's ESG governance

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Extensive knowledge of sustainability practices, and applicable laws and regulations

Demonstrated record of accomplishment of instituting sustainable business practices in a utility, consulting, municipal or manufacturing environment

Excellent presentation skills for delivering proposals to all levels within the Company, as well as with regulatory, investor, industry and other stakeholder audiences

Demonstrated ability to successfully execute in a matrixed environment by building consensus and working with and throughout an organization without direct leadership of people.

Ability to write reports, policies, guidelines and procedures with extensive use of software tools

Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills

Creative mindset

Excellent analytical skills

Ability to analyze and understand research and to identify relevant and valuable information

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Proficient with Data Management Systems

Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering

An advanced degree is preferred

Progressively responsible experience in the environmental, science, engineering or sustainability fields

Knowledge and experience with ISO management systems

GRI or other ESG reporting agency certification is preferred

Other Requirements

Ability to create, interpret, and execute a budget

Negotiation skills and strategic thinking requisite for sustained, high-level interactions inside and outside the Company.
