IBM ESG External Reporting Project Associate in Armonk , New York Introduction

IBM Finance is Hiring a Project Associate - ESG External Reporting to work in our office based in Armonk, NY. This new position is a part of the newly formed project team within IBM's Accounting Practices and External Reporting organization. You will report to the ESG External Reporting Project Manager and interact with cross functional teams across the company.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a member of the newly formed ESG external reporting project team, you'll have the chance to leave your mark on the project and the organization by developing strategy, creating new processes, and drafting disclosures. You'll be joining at the ground floor and quickly establish yourself as a subject matter expert on global ESG regulatory requirements and reporting, a highly relevant area of interest for companies worldwide. This is a unique opportunity to interact across countless functions globally, including: ESG, Corporate Environmental Affairs, Chief Information Office, Chief Data Office, Corporate Audit & Assurance Services, Finance Business Controls, Procurement, Legal, Investor Relations, Finance, Treasury, Human Resources, and go-to-market teams in consulting and software. This role will provide direct exposure to IBM senior leaders, who are committed to driving sustainability both internally and externally. You'll be part of an organization that is rooted in making the world a better place and has ESG at its very core.

You will play a critical role in the development and execution of the ESG reporting project, with the mission to develop and execute compliance-ready disclosures related to SEC and other global requirements. Anticipated duties include:

Understand ESG requirements (including proposals and standards issued by the SEC, ISSB, EC, amongst others) and educate others in the company on these requirements.

Develop expertise on ESG trends, frameworks and regulatory requirements.

Assist in project management duties by acting as a liaison between ESG-related functions and compliance and operations organizations.

Serve as workstream lead for multiple project workstreams. This will entail leading cross-functional discussions and preparation of presentation materials, managing program resources and schedules, and communicating with executives.

Through understanding of relevant regulatory requirements and IBM's current ESG disclosures, perform gap assessments, assist in developing an actionable project plan & roadmap to implement new regulatory requirements.

Assist in the execution of a materiality assessment/priority topic assessment to identify ESG issues that are most critical to IBM's business and objectives, engaging with key internal and external stakeholders.

Assist in global scoping exercise, collaborating with international teams to determine the impact of regulation in jurisdictions worldwide. Help form a recommendation to leadership for reporting strategy going forward based on findings.

Work closely with cross functional teams to build robust and auditable ESG disclosures.

Document processes, conclusions and recommendations and present findings to executives.

Collaborate with key process owners throughout the organization and team with IBM's internal and external auditors to support the operation of controls for ESG reporting and effective audit programs.

Successful Candidates will Possess:

A desire to learn new content and explore the ever evolving and exciting ESG space. A potential candidate is a highly motivated, self-starter, results-oriented individual that is nimble and able to adapt in a fluid landscape. You will have strong attention to detail and an ability to work on multiple deliverables simultaneously. You have a track record of driving projects to completion with a high degree of accuracy through excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong analytical skills.

Adept at working cross-culturally and cross-functionally with strong collaboration and teamwork skills; good at building and cultivating strong relationships with business partners.

Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative, acting as a proxy for management by taking ownership of initiatives to deliver positive results.

Experience preparing well-structured, detailed written reports and technical analysis by synthesizing complex information into cohesive, clear documentation.

Passionate about ESG subject matter and reporting.

Strong problem-solving skills and creativity with the ability to craft and analyze options to make specific recommendations and action plans.

Process, governance, and controls experience and skills.

You are able to react to changes quickly, prioritize, and work under tight deadlines in complex environments in order to drive results.

High competency in Microsoft suite of applications including: PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

3+ years of public accounting experience including leadership roles or equivalent years of non-public accounting experience (SEC registrant company).

Strong finance or accounting background including financial reporting, processes, internal controls, and/or systems.

Experience reading, understanding, interpreting and applying accounting & reporting standards and regulatory requirements.

Bachelor's and/or master's in Accounting or Finance.

Knowledge of and/or interest in ESG reporting matters

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

ESG knowledge/familiarity is a plus.
