Georgeson is looking to grow our Proxy Advisory team with the addition of a Managing Director, ESG Advisory.

Georgeson’s ESG advisory team helps clients across market capitalizations and sectors achieve their environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals. Our engagements with clients range from the tactical to the strategic, and in all cases help assess, develop or integrate ESG practices within their companies.

A role you will love

As Managing Director on the team, you will be a key manager of client projects while also helping to drive and execute ESG strategy across Georgeson. You have a developed and nuanced understanding of the ESG landscape, industry or subject matter expertise, and dedication to delivering ESG advisory services that help our clients develop and execute on their ESG strategies and communications. You will play a central role in our growing ESG advisory business and will progress organizational ESG goals with a focus on leading client engagements and project management. Well-qualified candidates will demonstrate an understanding and passion for ESG and be able to operate in an entrepreneurial environment within a large organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • A member of the ESG advisory services team, leading and supporting client ESG strategy development and implementation
  • Serving as a primary contract for current and prospective clients on ESG matters
  • Monitor ESG developments, including within issuer reporting and investor policies and practices
  • Stay abreast of competitor practices and collaborate with the ESG advisory team to develop and execute on ESG products and services
  • Perform and synthesize research to develop client presentation materials on a range of ESG topics (taking into account your relevant areas of subject matter expertise)
  • Participate internally in work streams and projects to deepen Georgeson’s role and reputation within the ESG landscape
  • Serve as a key internal resource on ESG matters and contribute to team thought leadership efforts
  • Willingness to represent Georgeson in select internal and external presentation and speaking opportunities
  • Some travel required, 20% when safe business travel resumes


What will you bring to the role?

  • 7+ years’ work experience in ESG or related fields, with a preference for those with a background in ESG investing, ESG research, in-house ESG strategy development or management consulting
  • A passion for and a deep and demonstrated knowledge of ESG concepts and prior experience with one or more of the following: reporting frameworks, particularly SASB and TCFD; investor initiatives such as CERES, Climate Action 100+, the Human Capital Management Coalition; engagement with ESG rating and data organizations such as MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS, CDP; Sustainable financing matters such as ESG portfolio construction or issuance of green or rainbow bonds
  • Be able to communicate and give presentations effectively and professionally to high profile audiences, with strong writing and editing abilities
  • Willingness to learn new concepts and emerging frameworks, and to work flexibility within a dynamic and growing team
  • Comfortable executing on multiple projects and high-quality deliverables simultaneously with excellent time management skills and sense of prioritization
  • Strong project management skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to leverage data and narrative information to conduct deep research and provide high quality analysis of issues and potential solutions
  • Intellectual curiosity and interest in the interplay between ESG and investors’ decision-making
  • A committed and collaborative team player able to work independently and also willing to share thoughts, be comfortable giving and receiving feedback, and developing and debating ideas
